My final project was the master artist assignment. For this project, I picked Georges Seurat to create an inspired piece. For mothers day, I got my mom a cactus. So what better way to give her a gift than hand make a vase for the cactus. To incorporate the idea of Seurat's artwork, I glazed my vase/small pot with several dots. Below is a few pictures of my sketches and the final product of my final project for Ceramics two.
Above is a picture of the dog food and water dishes that I plan on making. Here is a slideshow of both of my dog bowls. Although, as of today, my bowls are not out of the kiln. I really took a lot of pride in this project while making this for my dog, Boomer. I'm hoping that the glazes turned out well as I mixed two glazes together. The colors I mixed were indigo float and midnight blue. On the bone, I added toasted sage to contrast the blue and keep the normal "bone" color.
Above are a few pictures of one of my clay colored plates. Although, we had to make a set. My second plate to finish the set was on the bottom of the kiln when I went to take a picture. So, a picture when it is fired will be uploaded at a later date. Along with pictures of the project glazed.
The lidded vessel project was the most challenging one to perfect. I like to be very precise, which helped to be a positive thing in order to complete this. The glaze colors are smokey marlott and chum plum. The lid had a piece of glass placed on it right before it was fired, giving it a little something extra. Here they are!
Here are pictures of my slab sketches and final product. The project objective was to create cultural opposites. Pictured on the left below, is a turtle below the ocean at the ocean floor. On the right, is a quick sketch of the turtles setting sail into the ocean. While glazing, I had to be very precise with my artwork. I am very happy with how they turned out and can't wait to hang them up on the wall!
Below are the cups I made for my first assignment. As you can see, they are similar to my sketches. Although, they are all unique and have their own characteristics. The glazing process is what really changed the look of the cups and made them their own.Below are a few pictures of lidded vessels I like. Each are unique and have their own definition. All of the vessels have been thrown on the wheel and have wheel trimmed lids. Above all features, I really like the idea of having a nob on the top of the lid. These vessels were glazed at cone 5.
Here are a few of my ceramic pieces before I glazed them. Some are simple but the way they are glazed is what would make someone want to pick it up off the shelf!
Below is a picture of a bowl with a very unique glazing style. I really like the ombre way of grazing and think it's a cool way to tie a piece of artwork together.
